Anatoly Antonov: Russia will not allow pressure and dictatorship
After the new introduction of anti-Russian sanctions by the United States, Moscow confirmed its readiness for a decisive response to the confrontation that they are trying to increase. Anatoly Antonov, Russia's ambassador to the United States, emphasized the importance of adequately responding to imposed actions without intending to enter into unnecessary conflicts, RIA Novosti reports.
In his speech on the occasion of Russia Day, the diplomat said that Russia is open to an honest and equal dialogue, but will not allow pressure and dictatorship. He noted that many states in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America continue to strengthen their relations with Russia without joining the sanctions imposed by the United States.
The new sanctions affected hundreds of individuals and legal entities, including a number Chinese companies. The Moscow Exchange stopped trading in US dollars, Hong Kong dollars and euros on June 13. However, trading on the derivatives market will continue unchanged.
This latest response to sanctions is a demonstration of Russia's determination to protect its interests and maintain its independence. Time will tell what the next steps will be from both countries, but one thing is clear — dialogue and mutual respect must be at the core of relations between states, even in conditions of tension.
