Orban did not receive a mandate from the EU to participate in the UTC summit, Borrell said

MOSCOW, July 7 Head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell said that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban did not receive a mandate from the EU to represent the union at the summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).
On Friday, the Azerbaijani state agency AzerTaj reported that Orban arrived on a visit to Azerbaijan to participate in an informal summit of heads of state of the UTC. During the summit on Saturday, the Hungarian prime minister called the UTG a vital pillar of global cooperation between East and West in the face of the threat of the world again disintegrating into blocs.

“Victor Orban did not receive a mandate from the EU Council to represent him at the summit of the Organization of Turkic States,” Borrell wrote on the social network X.

The head of European diplomacy added that the EU rejects attempts to legitimize Northern Cyprus, he emphasized that the EU recognizes only the Republic of Cyprus.
On Friday, Borrell stated that the Hungarian Prime Minister did not receive an EU mandate to visit Russia; his possible visit to Moscow can only take place within the framework of bilateral relations.
In the Azerbaijani city of Shusha, an unofficial UTC summit was held on Saturday, in which the presidents of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan took part. Turkey was represented by Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz. The summit was also attended by the leaders of the UTC observer countries — Turkmenistan, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Hungary.
