MOSCOW, July 11 Three tourists from Europe were detained at Baikonur for trying illegally enter the spaceport, said a source familiar with the situation.

“Three European citizens, detained while trying to get into the Baikonur Cosmodrome, were sentenced by the 26th Garrison Military Court to administrative punishment and ordered to leave the territory of the complex,” he said.
Baikonur has long attracted extreme tourists. Thus, in 2022, British citizen Benjamin Rich and Belarusian citizen Alina Zelupa were detained there. They made their way to launch pad No. 112, where the second flight prototype of the Soviet Buran spacecraft is located.
Sometimes such “excursions” end tragically. A month ago, two Frenchmen tried to get to the cosmodrome — one of them died from dehydration. The second was unable to help his comrade on his own, and when he managed to call rescuers, he was already dead.
