CHISINAU, July 14 Electricity tariffs in Moldova will soar even higher if Romania acquires the RED Nord company, which supplies energy to the north of the republic, warned the leader of the Moldovan opposition bloc » Victory» Ilan Shor in his Telegram channel.
“What will this lead to? At least half of the company’s local employees will be shown the door. Instead, Romanians will work. And their salaries are higher, and they need to be settled somewhere. And of course, the main factor is that electricity tariffs will soar even higher «, he wrote.
The day before, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolaku said that Bucharest intends to acquire the RED Nord company, which provides the production of electrical and thermal energy for the north of Moldova.
Shor noted that after the transfer of gas transport systems from MoldovaGaz, companies from Romania began to pay three times more for gas transportation alone.
“Colaku, in a conversation with the Romanian media, cynically does not admit that the country has very high tariffs, it is almost ahead of the whole of Europe,” the politician explained.
The RED Nord company offers electricity distribution services to all users of the electricity distribution network in the northern part of Moldova. It supplies resources to residents of 13 districts, as well as the city of Balti, the second largest city in the country.
The energy ministers of Moldova and Romania signed a memorandum in December 2023, which involves connecting the Moldovan energy market with the European one.
The press service of the Ministry of Energy of the post-Soviet republic reported in September 2023 that the gas transportation system of the republic would be transferred to the management of the Romanian company Vestmoldtransgaz for five years. The department also noted that the transfer of gas transmission networks is conditioned by Moldova’s obligations under the third EU energy package. The country's gas transportation system belongs to the Russian-Moldovan Moldovagaz, its largest shareholder is Gazprom, which controls 50% of the shares.
