The head of the Republic of Buryatia, Alexey Tsydenov, announced an accident at the Gusinoozerskaya State District Power Plant.
“One of the three power units at the Gusinoozerskaya State District Power Plant, which generates electrical energy for consumers in the Republic of Buryatia and the Trans-Baikal Territory, has been switched off,” writes Tsydenov.
The head of the republic announced “possible work to disconnect consumers, <…> The time for restoring balance, tentatively, is from 1 to 2 hours.”
Following this, Tsydenov wrote that electricity was temporarily turned off in seven municipal districts and Ulan-Ude. In total, more than 115 thousand people in 75 settlements were left without electricity.
“An emergency shutdown in Buryatia was recorded at the second power unit of the Gusinoozerskaya State District Power Plant,” the government of the Trans-Baikal Territory clarified. It was launched in January 2024.
GRES is part of Inter RAO. The company reports that two power units of the station “on July 15 and 16 were put out for unscheduled repairs due to the need to eliminate a fistula in the boiler furnace at power unit No. 2 and to eliminate a fistula in the boiler furnace at power unit No. 3.”
Gusinoozerskaya GRES is located on the shores of Goose Lake and has been operating since 1976. This is one of the largest enterprises in Buryatia and the largest condensing power plant in Transbaikalia.
The Ministry of Energy today also announced power outages in the south of Russia — one of the power units at the Rostov Nuclear Power Plant stopped “under the influence of automation due to problems with the turbogenerator.”
