In the Belgorod region, 14 settlements will be closed due to shelling; Only men will be allowed in by agreement with the authorities.

In the Belgorod region, starting July 23, entry into 14 settlements will be restricted due to shelling, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said following a meeting of the operational headquarters.

We are talking about the villages of Vergilevka, Shchetinovka and the village of Valkovsky in the Belgorod district, the village of Bogun-Gorodok in the Borisov district, the village of Bezymeno and the village of Gorkovsky in the Grayvoronsky district, the villages of Demidovka, Popovka and Prilesye in the Krasnoyaruzhsky district, as well as the villages of Krasnoye, Leninsky, Pervomaisky and the villages of Mukhin and Pankov in the Shebekinsky district.

At the entrances to these settlements, checkpoints will be opened, manned by security forces. “We will give them 14 concrete modular shelters to ensure safety,” Gladkov said. The entrance will be completely closed to taxis and public transport.

To get into the villages, residents will need to submit an application to the heads of settlements or municipalities, and only men will be allowed in “according to strict regulations: in an armored car with EW, in personal protective equipment — wearing body armor and a helmet — and accompanied by military personnel and representatives of municipalities, including self-defense,” the governor explained.

“I hope that you will agree that it is, of course, unacceptable to let women and children into populated areas that are shelled every day. <…> We have already lost a lot of civilians, we have many wounded, and, of course, our task is to take maximum security measures,” writes Gladkov.

The abandoned houses, according to the head of the region, will be guarded by the army “according to the agreed order and schedule.” In the villages “they will stop paying utility bills, except for those paid by meter.” People who choose not to leave their homes will pay for gas and electricity as usual. Residents are offered to leave to PVR; those who rent housing are promised partial compensation.

People who did not lose their housing as a result of shelling, but who have nowhere else to live, will be able to receive 10 thousand rubles a month for rent, large families — 15 thousand rubles a month.

“This support measure will now be not only for those whose houses or apartments are destroyed or damaged, but also for residents whose housing was not damaged, but is located in populated areas, access to which is limited by decision of the Operational Headquarters «, explained Gladkov.

In addition, the governor said that he was going on sick leave because he “doesn’t feel very well” and he “needs to take care of his health.” He promised to go to work on Monday.
