The 2nd Western District Military Court on June 27 sentenced 42-year-old installer from the Oryol region Dmitry Mezenin to 18 years in prison in a case of treason and terrorism. Mediazona was informed about this by the press service of the court.
Mezenin was found guilty of treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code), promoting terrorism (Part 3 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code), participation in a terrorist organization (Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code) and purchasing explosives via the Internet (clause “c” of Part 3 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code). What exactly he is accused of is not specified. Judging by the imputed articles, it is possible that Mezenin, according to investigators, wanted to join the Legion “Freedom of Russia”, “Russian Volunteer Corps” or another Ukrainian unit recognized as terrorist in Russia.

His case was considered in open court via video conferencing. “The defendant fully admitted his guilt and repented, actively cooperated with the investigation,” the press service added. Of the eighteen years of imprisonment, he must spend the first four years in prison, the rest of the term in a maximum security colony. He was also given a fine of 600 thousand rubles and a year of restriction of freedom.
It is not specified when Mezenin was detained. In October 2023, he was added to the Rosfinmonitoring list of terrorists and extremists. Mezenin was born in the village of Kolendo on Sakhalin, however, judging by personal information that has become publicly available, he recently lived in Oryol. He probably has children — in 2016, enforcement proceedings were opened against the man due to non-payment of child support. The organization “ELR INSTALLATION SYSTEMS” is listed as his last place of work for 2021.
