In the Krasnodar Territory, animal handling inspector Denis Dzhalaganiya was beaten by relatives and acquaintances of the owner of a Tikhoretsky dog shelter when he tried to check the living conditions of the animals. He himself told the Caucasian Knot about this.
Jalagania is an inspector of the Southern Interregional Directorate of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources. On July 11, animal rights activists told him that in the shelter, which, according to the municipal contract, must ensure the capture and humane maintenance of stray animals in Tikhoretsk, dogs are killed and their corpses are taken out at night in an unknown direction.
Jalagania arrived at the scene. Around five in the morning, he saw a truck covered with an awning and took a photo of it.
«I knocked on the door of the yard, a man came out, I showed him my inspector's ID and asked him to show the dogs, <…> to which the man reacted violently and started shouting that this was private property and started pushing me away from the gate,» Jalagania said.
The inspector continued to monitor the shelter from the street. According to him, a black car drove up to the building, from which “three people with sticks came out” and began to “aggressively advance” towards him. He recognized them as relatives and acquaintances of the owner of the shelter.
“Seeing that the forces were unequal and that these three were armed with sticks, I retreated and tried to hide from them, but they ran after me. They knocked me down and started beating me, hitting me on the head, on the back, on the arms and legs, on the chest,” the inspector said. The attackers took his phone and fled.
Doctors diagnosed the inspector with “bruises to the head, chest, left leg, abrasions of the left elbow joint” (a copy of the medical report is at the disposal of the Caucasian Knot). Dzhalaganiya wrote a statement about beatings and theft.
The next day after contacting the police, the inspector was summoned to the FSB, where he was questioned “about discrediting the Russian army.” As it turned out, the denunciation against Jalagania was written by one of the attackers named Maxim.
A Caucasian Knot correspondent contacted Maxim. He told her that he “beat [the inspector] for the job.” “I am a member of the SVO. Every week I carry humanitarian cargo to the Northern Military District for our guys, and this animal rights activist spoke negatively about the Northern Military District. Our guys are dying, and I couldn’t resist striking him,” Maxim told the publication.
According to Maxim, the inspector’s “negative statements” about the war were conveyed to him by acquaintances from the chat in which Jalagania is a member. It is not yet known whether any report was drawn up against him.
Jalagania notes that the attackers are still at large, and the investigator signed the order ordering a forensic medical examination only the day before, on July 18.
