From April to June 2024, Russian banks issued 45.8 thousand new loan deferments for volunteers who went to fight in Ukraine. This is evidenced by the latest data from the Central Bank, which was brought to the attention of Mediazona.
All participants in the invasion of Ukraine (including contract soldiers and mobilized personnel) have the right to a loan deferment, but such a deferment cannot be taken out for a loan that was taken out after being sent to war. This means that most of these applications are now filled out by volunteers.
This increase in new deferments has become a record since 2022, when this credit holiday program was launched simultaneously with the announcement of mobilization. Since then, about 30 thousand new beneficiaries have appeared every quarter.
The total number of loans to which military benefits were applied reached 357 thousand, and the total amount of these loans is 138.7 billion rubles, according to the Central Bank. In its current version, the law on such benefits is valid until the end of 2024.
