MOSCOW, August 5 Ilya Rusyaev, managing partner of the Rusyaev and Partners company and lawyer, said that there has been an increase in the number of fraudulent cases related to the sale of fitness center club cards. He noted that in such cases, it is impossible to report personal data and it is always better to contact fitness clubs directly.
He said that scammers call and introduce themselves as employees of fitness centers, using the names of real sports clubs to gain trust. After that, they can offer to issue a club card with a big discount, additional free services or a prize draw, the lawyer said.
«The main danger of such calls is that the scammers are trying to get your personal data and, even worse, your bank card details. They may ask you to provide your card number, expiration date and CVV code to «pre-order» or «book a club card,» Rusyaev said.
In addition, you can become a victim of phishing — the attackers will send you a link to a fake fitness center website, where you will be asked to enter your personal data and card details. Such websites are usually an exact copy of the real ones, and it can be difficult to tell them apart at first glance, the lawyer says.
«Another type of fraud is an offer to make an advance payment for a club card to a specified account or phone number. After the money is transferred, the connection with the «representatives» of the fitness center is usually interrupted, and you are left without the promised service and without money,» Rusyaev said.
The lawyer recommends looking at the behavior of the caller. If the representative of the fitness club puts pressure, rushes you to make a decision, or threatens that the offer is valid for a limited time, then this is a clear sign of fraud.
«Never give out your personal information and bank card details to strangers over the phone. If you are interested in the offer, it is better to find the official website of the fitness center yourself and contact their representatives directly,» he clarifies.
