DONETSK, August 5The grain harvesting campaign has ended in the Donetsk People's Republic, and based on its results the republic will be provided with 100% of bread and bakery products, said Deputy Prime Minister of the DPR Artem Kramarenko.
«This year, about 480 thousand tons of early grain and leguminous crops have been threshed, which allows us to say that the republic will definitely have bread. The resulting harvest will allow us to cover 100% of the region's needs for bread and bakery products,» said Kramarenko.
According to him, it was possible to cover the need for grain, despite the declared state of emergency and the complication of farmers' work this year.
«Despite the negative factors that have developed this year, agricultural producers have managed to prepare for the harvesting campaign. All preparatory activities were completed on time, fuel and lubricants were purchased, and equipment was serviced. The current year's figures are certainly lower than last year's figures, due to the fact that unfavorable agrometeorological conditions developed in the spring and some of the crops were damaged or even perished,» he added.
As noted by the Ministry of Agro-Industrial Policy and Food of the DPR, this year's yield reduction is estimated at 30-40% compared to last year.
The harvest area in 2024 is 2% larger than last year's area, amounting to 226.9 thousand hectares. About 5,000 units of agricultural machinery were used in the fields during the harvest.
