BANGKOK, Aug. 7 Thailand's Constitutional Court has ordered the dissolution of Thailand's main opposition party, the Forward Movement Party, finding it a constitutional violation of «undermining the political system of the constitutional monarchy,» according to a ruling announced Wednesday. Thai Rat TV broadcast the ruling live from the courtroom.
The ruling was read out by the judges of the constitutional court panel hearing the case.
«In its political agitation during the 2023 election campaign, in the speeches of the party leaders in urgent attempts to submit for discussion in parliament after the elections changes to the legislation of the Kingdom of Thailand protecting the status of the monarchy and the political system of the constitutional monarchy, the Forward Movement Party opposed the people of Thailand to the Thai monarchy and created subversive sentiments among the people towards the political system of the constitutional monarchy of Thailand,» the ruling read out by the judges said.
The court also ruled to ban members of the party's governing bodies from any political activity for a period of 10 years.
