The Polish prosecutor's office has disclosed the charges under which former coordinator of the Open Russia movement Igor Rogov was detained at the end of July. The agency's statement is cited by the publication «That's it».
27-year-old Rogov, who studied at the University of Silesia in Katowice, is accused of creating a threat of «an explosion or the spread of toxic substances» (paragraph 3 of paragraph 1 of Article 163, paragraph 1 of Article 164 of the Polish Criminal Code). Both articles fall under the section «crimes against public safety.»
The prosecutor's office spokesman Przemysław Nowak did not disclose the specific plot of the case. The court arrested the Russian for three months.
As Vot Tak notes, Rogov moved to Poland because he was a scholarship recipient of the Katowice program. His acquaintances told Port that on the morning of July 29, civilian-clothed security forces took him away from a dormitory in the city of Sosnowiec, neighboring Katowice.
Igor Rogov was the deputy coordinator of Navalny's headquarters in Saransk, and then he was the coordinator of the Mordovian branch of Open Russia. In August 2020, the activist was detained during protests in Minsk along with another Open Russia member, Artem Vazhenkov.
Rogov later recalled: “[At Okrestina, they beat me] simply in response to every word I said, to the fact that I asked to call them at the embassy — they beat me for this <…> I got it for every word I said. And it was all with very strong aggression. They simply said: «What, you bastard, do you want changes? Did you get your changes?»
Rogov was released that evening, and Vazhenkov — four days later. Vazhenkov became a defendant in a case of participation in mass riots (part 2 of article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus). State television called him a «provocateur.»
