The State Duma in the first reading adopted a bill that extends the status of veterans to members of volunteer formations fighting in Ukraine. This is stated on the website of the lower house of parliament.
More than 300 deputies and senators, headed by State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, made amendments to the law «On Veterans» three days ago.
Since the beginning of the war, the authorities have already expanded the list of persons who can receive combat veteran status. Among them are the military themselves, participating in the invasion of Ukraine, FSB officers who “repelled armed provocations at the border,” as well as civilian specialists, such as doctors and builders.
In October, Putin signed a law on credit holidays for participants in the war in Ukraine, and the government granted them a deferment in paying taxes and insurance premiums. The State Duma, in turn, adopted amendments obliging them to keep jobs for the mobilized. In addition, recruits and their relatives were exempted from penalties for late payment of utility bills and capital repairs.
