Russian airlines start cutting flights due to subsidy cuts
Russian airlines have begun to massively cancel domestic flights due to the reduction of state subsidies by one and a half billion rubles. Izvestia writes about this with reference to representatives of the industry, as well as a source close to the Ministry of Transport.
If last year air carriers were allocated nine billion rubles for domestic flights, then in 2023 — 7.5 billion.
According to the publication, airlines have already begun to change flight programs . Most flights were canceled to St. Petersburg, Tatarstan, Omsk and Tyumen regions, North Ossetia and Dagestan.
According to Andrey Kramarenko, a leading specialist at the HSE Center for Transport Economics, carriers «cut» those directions, the cancellation of which will not cause great indignation among the Russians.
«If they cut funding for flights to the Far East, there would be outrage,» he said.
