MELITOPOL, July 21 Direct elections of the governor of the Zaporozhye region are possible only if the relevant decision is made by the deputies of the legislative assembly of the region, who will be elected in September, said the head of the regional election commission, Galina Katyushchenko.
“In these elections, we do not provide for direct elections of the governor. Far from all regions of Russia, elections of the governor are held by direct voting. Therefore, we are now electing the legislative assembly of the Zaporozhye region, then at the regional level, the deputies will determine the procedure for choosing the governor,” she said.
According to her, the situation is the same with the possibility of direct elections of heads of municipalities.
«We do not provide for direct elections of heads of municipalities in the elections of mayors. When the deputies of municipalities are elected, they will determine how the heads of cities will be elected in the future,» Katyushchenko added.
Elections of deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Zaporozhye region will be held on a single voting day on September 10.
