“Agency”: Moscow libraries have stopped issuing books by Lyudmila Ulitskaya, who opposed the war; they are being sent for write-off

Moscow libraries have stopped issuing books by writer Lyudmila Ulitskaya to readers. The Agency writes about this with reference to several employees of the capital's libraries.

So, one of the employees told the publication that Ulitskaya's registered books are sent for write-off — and they are registered as spoiled so that they cannot be distributed to people. Those works that the library did not have time to register are sent to waste paper. It is unknown who specifically initiated the writing off of books, however, as the Agency’s interlocutor emphasized, “the libraries are doing all this together.”

As the publication noted, Ulitskaya’s books also disappeared from the electronic system of the Moscow Library. As early as 8:00, the works were available for booking, but by 9:30 they were no longer displayed in the system, and the writer herself was also removed from the list of authors.

“The only thing that remains available to Moscow readers is the collections in which Ulitskaya participated,” writes the Agency. At the same time, in a similar system in St. Petersburg, the writer’s works are still available for booking.

Yesterday it became known that Ulitskaya was stripped of the title of honorary professor at the Russian Chemical-Technological University (RHTU) named after Mendeleev back in August. Deputy Elena Yampolskaya wrote about this in her Telegram channel, having previously accused the writer of “getting into trouble over the past time — you can’t clean it up.”

A few hours before Yampolskaya’s publication, pro-government pranksters Vovan and Lexus published their conversation with Ulitskaya on behalf of Andriy Ermak, head of the office of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. In the video, the writer said that she sends royalties from the sale of her books to Ukraine, and again spoke out against the Russian invasion. In addition, Ulitskaya said that she considers it “Ukraine’s right” to carry out aggressive actions against pro-Kremlin propagandists.

After the publication of the video, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Culture Alexander Sholokhov recalled that earlier deputies in the third reading adopted a bill on confiscation of property those convicted of military “fakes” for “selfish motives” and crimes against state security. The amendments, according to Sholokhov, may also affect the writer in connection with her admission of sending money to Ukraine. After the outbreak of a full-scale war, Ulitskaya left for Germany, criticizing the actions of the Russian authorities.
