YAROSLAVL, February 4 The play “Einstein and Margarita” with actors Ksenia Rappoport and Alexei Serebryakov was canceled in Yaroslavl after the Ministry of Culture of the Yaroslavl Region received relevant appeals from citizens , reported the press service of the Ministry of Culture.
In 2023, the play, directed by Alexander Marin, was canceled at least three times: in February in St. Petersburg, in May in Yekaterinburg, and in June in Novosibirsk. In some cases, the cancellation was justified by “technical reasons”; in other cases, no comments were received at all.
On the website of the Millennium Concert and Entertainment Center in Yaroslavl, the largest concert venue in the Yaroslavl region, a message appeared about the cancellation of the performance, which was supposed to take place on February 26. Spectators were warned that they can return previously purchased tickets at the point of purchase for a full refund.
The press service of the Ministry of Culture of the Yaroslavl region reported that the play “Einstein and Margarita” was planned by a commercial organization on legal grounds. But “taking into account public opinion” it was decided to cancel the show.

“The ministry received relevant appeals from activists,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
She answered in the affirmative to the question of whether the activists were directly dissatisfied with the personalities of the actors and their statements — in particular, regarding a special military operation.
Earlier, Ksenia Rappoport condemned the special military operation in Ukraine. In November 2022, she was expelled from the St. Petersburg Council for Culture and Art, as well as from some charitable projects.
