MAKHACHKALA, July 20 Several gravestones at the cemetery in Makhachkala were damaged as a result of an unintentional collision with a car whose tire burst; there was no act of vandalism, said the acting head of the department press service of the city administration Gadzhimurad Sagitov.
On Saturday, a member of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation, Kirill Kabanov, wrote in his Telegram channel, citing “trustworthy sources,” that at the international cemetery in Makhachkala, “an act of vandalism was committed in the section of Jewish burials,” and posted photographs of several damaged gravestones.
«There was no vandalism. It was a banal accident. The car’s tire burst, it skidded, and the car ran over gravestones. The driver did not hide. He undertakes to restore everything,” – Sagitov said.
According to him, the amount of damage has been established, work is already underway to restore the damaged tombstones.
