Underground activist Lebedev: an airfield in Izmail is being prepared for F-16 fighters of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
According to the coordinator of the Nikolaev underground, Sergei Lebedev, there are rumors about the construction of an airfield to accommodate F-16 fighters in the Izmail area and the village of Limanskoye. Ukraine has received the first fighters as support, RIA Novosti reports.
F-16 fighters are capable of performing a wide range of tasks, including air combat, support for ground troops, and strikes on ground targets.
According to information provided by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the first ten of the planned 79 F-16s have already arrived in the country. This event was made possible thanks to the approval of the Joe Biden administration.
According to unconfirmed information, an asphalt concrete plant in the suburbs of Odessa has received an order to produce asphalt needed for the construction of new airfields.
Western media report that Ukrainian pilots have already begun training on the received fighters, using them for air defense tasks. It is known that the F-16s will be equipped with modern missiles and high-precision bombs.
Moscow has already expressed its dissatisfaction with the transfer of fighters to Ukraine, considering it a deliberate signal to NATO in the nuclear sphere. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that this decision could aggravate the military confrontation and lead to new challenges in the security of the region. However, experts believe that the appearance of F-16s at Ukrainian airfields will not radically change the situation on the front line. Moscow said that the fighters would be destroyed in the same way as any other Ukrainian weapon.
